Auckland is where most international visitors land in New Zealand, and while many rush straight through to Queenstown or the South Island, the city itself rewards a couple of days โ it's built across dozens of dormant volcanic cones, several now grassy parks with panoramic harbour views, and the surrounding Hauraki Gulf offers island day trips that feel remarkably removed from a major city just a ferry ride away. Add genuinely excellent Pacific and Mฤori cultural experiences and a strong cafรฉ scene, and Auckland earns more time than its reputation as merely a gateway suggests.
