Kerala is a different India from Rajasthan's deserts and forts — green, slow-moving, and built around water. A multi-day houseboat cruise through the backwaters remains the single most iconic Kerala experience, drifting past rice paddies and small villages at a pace that's the opposite of anything else on a typical India itinerary. Add in misty hill-station tea plantations, genuine Ayurvedic treatment centres (not just spa-resort versions), and a relaxed coastal stretch in Kochi, and Kerala works equally well as a standalone trip or a decompression stop after busier parts of the country.
